FIRST FULL VESA DISPLAYPORT 2.0 VIDEO SOURCE AND Sink DISPLAYPORT DEVICE UHBR (ULTRA-HIGH BIT RATE) CERTIFIED

Qualified DisplayPort VESA Authorized Test Centers ready for end product UHBR certification

BEAVERTON, Oregon – May 9, 2022 – The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA®) today announced that the first video source and display devices to support DisplayPort Ultra-high Bit Rate (UHBR) – the highest data link speeds supported by the DisplayPort version 2.0 standard – have certified through the DisplayPort UHBR Certification Program. To achieve this milestone, the UHBR chipset reference source and display designs provided by AMD, MediaTek, and Realtek have passed the PHY, link, and interoperability test requirements described in the conformance test specification. DisplayPort 2.0 (CTS). The higher bandwidths enabled by UHBR support a variety of use cases such as uncompressed 8K 60Hz HDR, 4K 240Hz HDR, two 4K 120Hz HDR displays, or four 4K 60Hz HDR displays via a single cable.

VESA also announced today that qualified VESA DisplayPort Authorized Test Centers (ATCs) are ready to begin testing and certification of UHBR end products using approved test equipment and receiver devices and reference sources. for interoperability testing.

A technical demonstration of a reference source and receiver configuration from AMD and MediaTek operating at UHBR link rates will be demonstrated at the Display Week Symposium and Expo in San Jose, CA, May 10-12, 2022 at VESA Booth #214 at the San José Convention Center.

VESA

“These latest developments to the DisplayPort UHBR Certification Program represent major advancements in the deployment of the DisplayPort UHBR ecosystem for new video, display and cable products supporting higher resolutions and refresh rates. Certification of UHBR reference devices must undergo rigorous testing to ensure they meet the requirements outlined in the DisplayPort 2.0 CTS. We are pleased to announce that a reference silicon assembly has been verified to meet the requirements of the DisplayPort 2.0 specification through our certification program. VESA now has the testing infrastructure in place to evaluate and certify OEM end products, and we are ready to work with the ecosystem to bring next-generation DisplayPort and IP chipsets to market.

— said James Choate, compliance program manager for VESA.

MediaTek

“We are very proud to be the first DisplayPort adopter to achieve DisplayPort UHBR certification for a receiving device. With the features brought by DisplayPort 2.0, we are able to develop advanced and robust technologies that system manufacturers can leverage to revolutionize the highest quality consumer viewing experience. VESA requires very rigorous testing before certification can be granted, which makes MediaTek’s achievement even more impressive. We are honored to play a vital role in VESA’s efforts to ensure interoperability and bring industry-leading products to market.

– said Vince Hu, Vice President and General Manager Compute Business Unit, MediaTek Inc.

AMD

“We are excited to continue our close collaboration with VESA on the development of the DisplayPort 2.0 UHBR ecosystem through the use of the AMD Ryzen™ 6000 Series processor as a certified reference source device. The DisplayPort UHBR certification program will ensure that sources, cables and displays interact seamlessly and create a robust ecosystem that delivers the full potential of DisplayPort 2.0 UHBR technology. The UHBR rates defined by the DisplayPort standard represent a new paradigm for display connectivity, with unprecedented bandwidth to facilitate smooth gaming, efficient video playback, and professional displays beyond 8K resolution.

– said Syed Athar Hussain, VESA Board Vice Chairman and AMD CVP and Principal Display Researcher

Realtek

We are proud to announce that our first DisplayPort 2.0 Rx and DisplayPort 2.0 Tx solutions have successfully passed VESA’s UHBR certification program conducted at Granite River Labs. This will help customers quickly achieve end product certification under the VESA Interoperability Conformance Testing Program. With the new Realtek DisplayPort 2.0 Rx/Tx solutions, an end user can enjoy a more responsive display and higher resolution across multiple display applications. This offers a significant leap forward that can satisfy both commercial and consumer markets as high-quality monitors and docking stations continue to evolve.

— Yee-Wei Huang, Spokesperson and Vice President of Multimedia Business Group at Realtek, said, “

Product developers who take advantage of the DisplayPort UHBR certification program can use the VESA Certified DisplayPort logo on their products and become reference devices for end-use product interoperability testing. Video source and display devices from AMD, MediaTek and Realtek have already been certified, while other source and display devices from VESA member companies are in the process of being certified. In addition, several UHBR compatible cable products have also obtained their certification and are commercially available.

Check the Product Database for the latest list of VESA-certified DisplayPort products. For guaranteed DisplayPort performance, be sure to check the DisplayPort logo since only VESA-certified DisplayPort products are allowed to carry the logo.
